Several days ago, I picked up the latest issue of Vogue to get educated on how the oh-so sexy Beyonce Knowles, who graces the cover of April's issue, gets her svelte shape. Now, you will never catch me saying I dislike any high-fashion magazine, like Vogue, ELLE and Glamour, but I can't say the same for the amount of ads that take up literally half the magazine. I mean, you go through 15 pages before even getting to the table of contents. But this time, I am forever grateful that something made me take my time and flip page by page because there and behold, several pages in, was the most beautiful handbag I had ever seen in my entire life. You know in movies, when the leading lady first sets eyes on her prince and the piano starts playing and action goes into slow motion? That's how this moment was for me - it was love at first sight.
The bright yellow Michael Kors bag that I was staring at for a minute straight is the perfect compliment to the usual dull-colored outfit this season - yes, for winter. Get this - this year you can swap that usual boring black leather bag for a more bright-eyed, summary shade. Another great color? Purple. Purple is the "in" fall color this season - bags, clothing, jewelry, nail polish - you name it, purple is in. Take a look at this Christian Dior Le Trente bag for instance; ignore the ugly price and let it spark some creativity for the next time you handbag shop!
And you don't have to pay a fortune to walk the walk either. DSW has great bags with buyer-friendly prices. Shops at Cameron Village in Raleigh also has a high-style boutique (my fav), Fab'rik, They say "If you've seen it on the runway or on a cover of a magazine, chances are you'll find it at fab'rik!" Another incentive to pay a visit to Fab'rik? All Big Buddha bags are under $100! I have to tell you, one of my favorite handbags I ever bought is bright yellow and mirrors the Michael Kors bag I fell in love with, but for only $70! Buddha bags are everywhere too - you'll find their top-selling totes, all in bold colors, from DSW, Dillards, eBags, Zappos and Nordstroms handbag shop, in addition to other popular designers like Fendi, Burberry, Dolce Kate Spade, Jimmy Choo, COACH, Juicy Couture, Jessica Simpson, BCBG, Nine West and more.
Just like your super-sassy party pumps, one handbag can make a huge statement. Remember though, if you're dress is simple, go with a patterned, metallic, bold statement. If you're outfit yells "party time," stick with a solid-colored bag that still pops. And no color mixing is off limits these days. Remember the "no brown or blue with black under ANY circumstance" rule? Forget it. Fashion is all about mixing and matching colors, patterns, material, you name it. The more creative, the better. The handbag you choose will say a lot about your personality so let it shine.
This holiday season, don't stress too much about your apparel, it's how you accessorize that matters. Use a big, bold, over-the-shoulder bag to glam yourself up. You'll walk taller and look sleeker instantly.
